The first public installation of Weavcast was at the Starlight Room at Queensland Children’s Hospital in December 2018. Weavcast allows users to share their creative Colouring In AR content to a shared digital diorama.
Built in Unity3D, I was the primary developer for Weavcast and built the core systems and environments for the windows client heavily collaborating with the Weavar mobile app team. Key features I developed include:
- Asset bundle content updating system
- Cloud hosted node pathfinding system
- Dynamic camera targeting system
- Content queuing systems
This project allowed me to creatively explore what was possible in level design in a shared environment with challenges such as:
- Screen clutter as the shared environment made for a difficult time keeping the look clean.
- Disparate AR content sizing due to some items being as small as a car or as large as a rocket ship.
Weavcast was hugely popular at the Starlight Room becoming a key focus point for young patients looking to escape the pressure of the hospital. I loved seeing the reactions of young participants when they saw their colouring in unicorn come to life in front of them, a hugely rewarding outcome.
