Hospital Capacity Planning Model

This is a hospital capacity planning model built in the Simio Software Package a deterministic discrete-event simulation software. The model features:

• Patients each with different care requirements based on historical data.
• Resources limited resources such as beds and equipment
• Simulated nurses and doctors that operate based on a set of activities.
• Batch experimentation to capture random variability in patient presentation to the department and activity completion times.

The models 3D environment allowed for very easy buy-in from stakeholders, who could instantly relate to and give feedback on the activities occurring inside the department. This model’s accuracy was validated by matching existing performance of the department and was subsequently used to test planned facility upgrades.
